Bio-based containers for healthcare waste ready for pilot production

A consortium led by NiNa Innovation has developed a prototype of a bio-based container as a substitute for fossil-based solutions available in health care today.

In health care, hazardous waste containers are used to collect and manage all waste that can be contagious, such as needles, disposable clothing, surgical cloths and more. These are then incinerated. They are currently manufactured from fossil-based plastics. Instead, a bio-based product has been developed that meets all functional requirements and does not lead to net emissions of carbon dioxide during combustion. A final seminar for the development project was arranged in Göteborg in December. In the next step OrganoClick will start pilot production of the biobased container to allow for full-scale testing.
